~Synopsis~
~Review~I first came across this novel as a reading suggestion on my Kindle. What made me decide to read this novel was the fact that the author also wrote another popular novel, Mrs. Lincoln's Dressmaker. What made me even more eager to read this novel was when I read the synopsis. What I enjoyed most about Mrs. Lincoln's Rival was the healthy amount of historical authenticity included. It was obvious to see that Chiaverini did her research-and did it well. Too well... While I enjoyed the historical authenticity, I felt that I was reading a history book instead of a novel. I would have liked to see more emotion from the characters. To get an idea of who the characters were from a human perspective- instead of from a textbook perspective. Because of this, after a while I was struggling to simply finish the book. It was refreshing to read a book historically correct, but I don't believe I will be reading anything by Chiaverini for a while. Meet the Author
